Moses, as covenant mediator, intercedes for Israel with YHWH with the result that God’s glory is displayed even more clearly, clearing the way for the ultimate mediator Jesus Christ.

A Called People

We draw to a close on Mount Sinai. Moses is receiving some of God’s last instructions for him and the Israelites. In this passage God calls His people to be a working people, a resting people and people identified by their relationship with Him. As you and I navigate our times, we take comfort in God’s timely word and his invitation to return to Jesus who orients, leads and calls us to live out our days under his reign.

As we move from who the priest are to the duties they perform we see that God has given a gracious pattern for worship that continues to give shape to the life of believers today.

In Exodus we see how God provided priests to bear the burdens of the people before his presence. This beautiful ministry prefigures Christ and call us to the same.

The tabernacle, God's chosen place of dwelling with his people, draws us in, helps us see, and reveals his heart even as it ultimately points us to Jesus.

In the Book of the Covenant God establishes a vision for society that is generous and just rooted in God's own love for his people.

Our compassionate God gave laws to the Israelites pertaining to their cultural context that, by using good questions and discernment together in community, we might articulate broad principles to apply God's values to our own cultural context.

Freedom's Book

In the Book of the Covenant we meet a gracious God who teaches a slave people how to live freely.

Exodus 24 is the centerpoint of God's establishment of the covenant with Israel that was promised in Exodus 6. In it we see a pattern for God's love for his church that culminates in Jesus Christ.
