Loving Others as God Loves Us

Scripture is filled with one-another commands to serve, encourage, build up, admonish, and bear with one another in love. These broad commands are lived out in person-specific ways that require us to know each other's stories beyond a surface level. What if we learned how to move toward others as God moves toward us? Drawing from Michael R. Emlet's book, this practical care class will explore what it looks like to hold in tension 3 things: that we are "saints who need confirmation of our identity as children of God, sufferers who need comfort in the midst of our affliction, and sinners who need challenge to our sin in light of God's redemptive mercies." 

C.S. Lewis: The Man & His Writings 

C.S. Lewis (1989-1963) was probably the most well-known Christian apologist of the 20th century. He was a writer of children’s fantasy (Narnia), adult fiction (The Great Divorce, Screwtape Letters), and non-fiction (The Abolition of Man, Mere Christianity). He was a Medieval literature scholar at Oxford and Cambridge universities, and a close friend of J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) and other prominent writers known as the Inklings. We will look at his life, examine and share readings from several of his writings.
