Although David has returned to Jerusalem after Absalom's rebellion, he is still contending with the continuing consequences of his sin in the Bathsheba affair. 2 Samuel 20 shows us that the sword has not departed from his house as death continues to swallow and destroy, but it also points us to the day when death itself will be swallowed in the victory of one of David's sons, whose kingdom never ends.
